How do I teach my 6 year old with ADD to read?

Hi my name is Andrea and I have a 6 year old who I am trying to teach to read. He has ADD which makes it difficult for the fact that when he blends the sounds together he forgets the begining sound by the time he gets to the end of the word.I have been patient with him in hopes that it would work. I has been since September and he still cannot read the word cat. I need help.

Thank you.

ADD is not a reason for reading to be hard. Maybe you need to have him tested for other things. My five year old has ADD we do not medicate him and he can read at a 3rd grade level. One of the few things he can actually solely focus on long enough to do for hours. Thank god he is not ADHD because I can't deal with the hyperactivity. Maybe your child needs meds or another learning style. I have ADD although I was not diagnosed until I was an adult but I never had problems in school with learning...I was just always bored and my son is the same way. We homeschool him and have found that doing things in 20 min intervals with 5-10 min breaks works best for his attention span.
