How do you know when to stop having children

I have four children and don't want any more but every time I see a newborn I get emotional that I'm never again going to be pregnant or breast feed or have a newborn of my own. Does this go with time and will I ever stop feeling broody?

No I dont think that feeling ever goes away. I have a 20 yr old and a 14 yr old and now a 5 month old. All though I thought I was done after the first 2 that feeling never went away. Thank god for little surprizes :)

I always wanted to have quite a few kids. We decided that as long as we have the financial ability for me to stay home with the kids until they go to school we can have more babies. I think that will mean only 2 as I can't see us being able to afford me staying out of work more than 5 years..

It's great to know I'm not the only one who feels like this. My sisters all think I'm mad but I just can't help feeling a pang when I see a newborn.

I agree, I think it's a mommy instinct!!!!!!! I feel the same and we have 3 girls and I keep telling myself I just want to try for a boy!!

i to feel the same way im good with 2 but then a friend will get pregnant and i feel jealous and contaplate another it drives me nut's! i think its woman nature we are the birth givers so maybe we feel its our duty to be mommy's,and maybe were really never ready to stop

I am a mother of two children, I had a tubal litigation on the same day my second was born. While I still get a hankering every now and again, I feel that was the best decision for my family when it comes to financials and also the quality time I would get with each child.

I still have the desire for another little one every now and again. So I suppose it never will really go away. Usually when I get the baby blues I will go visit a friend and borrow a baby for a few hours or so.

I think this is a natural desire for mothers. Holding and caring for a baby is so rewarding that we crave that every time we see one. My husband and I just had our third and we cannot bring ourselves to officially say we are done having kids. But when we really think about it, we lean toward the no side of things. You just need to go with what you as a couple think is good for you. They are so precious that sometimes you just think you could have more and more, lol.

I am battling the same feeling, my huband says we are done but i don't think I am yet. I would love to have 1 or 2 more. I guess when you set your mind and tell yourself enough is enough... I think that is just the mom inside not ready to give up that part of her purpose in life....
