How long should a baby wear a diaper

I usually see many kids wearing a diaper for a long time of about 9 hrs and more. My sister who gave birth to a girl on September even don't know for how long should they wear. Many people many advice but I wan't to know the fact.

Please anybody let me know if you know anything about it.

If you're talking about a newborn, I would say change him at least at every feeding. As they get older and begin sleeping longer at night, they can go longer. Yes, even 9 hours during the night. Who wakes their kid up in the night just to change their diaper?!

I just play it by ear! I asked one of the first midwives we visited after
Max was born; she said that technically, it was possible to leave a diaper
on for 12 hours... I have a hard time with that one. I change his diaper
every 4(ish) hours during the day (unless otherwise required)... at night
I let it go until he wakes up, usually 9-10 hours. I just make sure to change
him as soon as he wakes up.

After every poop... and when it starts getting soggy. More often if they have an issue w/ rashes.

My kids were dry/clean through the night pretty much from day one. During the day, they were changed within 20 minutes (TOPS) of noticing they were dirty or wet. I even change for mini pees and poops (especially my daughter...anything in her diaper and she would fuss about it)

I only change when there's actually something in the diaper. Which means that sometimes they were in the same (dry/clean) diaper for hours at a time. Other people change on a schedule and will put on a clean diaper every hour, hour and a half or whatever whether it's clean or not.

A diaper should be changed as soon as you notice it is wet, the baby cries when they get wet or soiled or set a period of time between changes like every hour to hour and half. If a child has to wear the diaper much longer than that and it gets wet or soiled, it can cause skin irritations or rashes. I think 9 hours is way too long to have a single diaper on unless its dry.

Every hour to hour and a half? Wow.....I used to change at each feed when they were newborn. I have NEVER woken a baby just to change them, so given they are sleeping so much between feeds, every hour is ridiculous. When they were awake, I'd just check them ever couple of hours (although if they pooped, I'd change straight away, you can smell that one!!). Basically, just follow your gut. There IS no set routine or timing that you have to do it. 9 hours would only seem appropriate at night.
