Im thinking of getting my son christened after his 1st birthday and i would like to budget on the price but i dont want to go overboard. It will be a close family occasion so there wont be alot of people there.

I also want to know what actually happens and any ideas for afterwards.

Im from England, UK.

for both my children it didnt cost alot. I would say about 100. My first we bought him a little tux which was 60 but for my second i put his uncle's christening gown on him so that didnt cost. We ordered some sandwiches and then had cake.

I know our church asked for a donation. I have heard of some churches telling you the amount of the donation they expect. The gathering after wards really depends on what you wan to do. We had a party out at a restaurant. It was a little pricey but worth not having to prepare and then clean up.

Ours was pretty much free...My child's father is in the Army so we got our son christened in mass at the church on Lavarak Barracks by the Padre the gown was my sons father's and the cake was made by my mother the booties on our cake were my son's father...we had the after party at his parent's place and bought some nibbles tea coffee and juice and disposable plates and cups...all in all it cost us probably under $100 AUSD
