How often do you change your baby's diaper?

Just wanted to take a poll on diaper changing. When my son was an infant I changed his diaper every hour but no more than two hours unless he was sleeping. Now my son is 20 months and has already started potty training. A few friends told me the hospital told them to change the diaper every three hours so thats what they do. If I waited three hours I would be changing his clothes alot more often too as he would wet through. (we use Huggies incase you are wondering) I would like to hear how often you change your baby's diaper and why you choose that schedule? just curious.

I change my son when he wakes up, before nap, after nap, again before nap, again after nap, and before bed. And any time he poops in between. I'd say we go through about 8 diapers a day, he's 14 months old.

That is the weirdest question I have ever heard asked. There IS NO SCHEDULE! When it is wet you change it. When it is dry you leave it on them. When they have a bowel movement you change it. Usually a quick finger slipped into the diaper will let you know if it is wet or if your finger comes out brown then yes time to change. My grandson wears Luvs because his Mom doesn't care for Pampers or Huggies. To each their own. Oh and you can always tell if it is wet when the diaper front is warm also.

When I worked at a daycare we were supposed to check the younger infants every 2 hours and the older ones every 3 hours (more often when they poop), I think every hr. is too often. Both my kids are potty trained. My son wet alot more often than my daughter did and I still didn't chnage him every hour. I used Huggies with my daughter and sometimes it would leak depending on how she layed (if she layed on her stomach the pee would run up and the front of the diaper would be soaked and leaking and the back of the diaper would be dry) of cours that was when she started sleeping all night, when she was newborn I changed her everytime I fed her and she didn't really poop alot after I switched her to formula. It really just depends on the baby and when they need to be changed I never had a set schedule.

You change them when they need it. And every child is different. Some don't mind being wet and fight changing, so as long as rash isn't a risk you can wait longer. Some hate being in a wet diaper, or have sensitive skin, so change it as soon as you can. I don't think diaper changing should be on a system, you just need to know your child and what's best for their bum.

I wait until its full or a B.M... but my daughter doesn't care if shes wet or poopy. I have to constantly check. I make sure she is dry before any naps/long car rides and of course after. I wish I had a schedule to know when she'll go to the bathroom- then I wouldn't even need diapers- just hold her over the can ;)

When it's full... or when he poops.

At 2 years and 4 months we go through 2-5 diapers a day. He's also beginning to potty train, but doesn't use the potty every day.

When ever she needs it I can't see how you can put a time schedule to changing them. The dryer you keep them the less likely of diaper rashes. There times I have changed her time and turned around and changed it again 20 mins later because she peed.

I change her when she wakes up in the morning, (then she usually poops an hour later change her then) then when she wakes up from her naps, and after bath time. Usually about 5-6times a day sometimes more just depending how many times she poops.

My daughter is crazy with her wet diapers. She is 10 months old and i have a feeling she will be potty trained early cuz her bladder muscles are pretty strong. She will wait 3-4 hours and stay completely dry, then all at once she lets it out and the diaper leakes. My son done the same when he was her age. I change her diaper when ever she needs it. I change wet cloths at least 2-3 times a day because of her peeing so much at once. And YES i check it several times within that 3-4 hour time span, and she it totaly dry untill she has to let it out, i told the dr about it and she said its normal that her kids done the same so b4 anyone tells me i should talk to the dr, I already have. lol
