I'm the same Amanda, I have encouraged my daughter to wait until she can look after them. At the moment, I have promised her that if she wants it done, it can be a graduation gift from primary school :) She actually has very little interest in having earrings right now.

My 3 yr old has asked a few times but she's a fiddler and I know she would either change her mind after they were done or they would get infected.

I am going to wait until she is at school and old enough to understand how to look after them properly.

Personally I don't like seeing babies and little toddlers with their ears pierced, but each to their own.

My friends daughter wanted her's doing for a few years my friend finally gave in on her 11th birthday, so off they went and got some very nice little Dolphine earrings then one fell out, the child was so put off about anyone touching her ears she wouldn't let anyone take the other one out or put the fallen out on back in! To this day (6 months on) she still only has 1 dolphin earring in lol bless her.

It really is each to there own, my two oldest daughters were both 3, I personally don't like to see earrings on any younger then that and I only like little studs, My youngest will probably be older then 3 because she's super shy and would never let the person close enough to do it.

I checked with my daughter's father first to see if he agreed with the decision to get her ears pierced, and he agreed. We had her pediatrician pierce her ears at 6 months (she'd had all of the shots for her age) and it was just fine. I'm glad that her pediatrician did it for us; I've heard horror stories of people taking their children to retail stores (i.e. Claire's, etc.) and having their ears pierced then. At least with the pediatrician doing it, the doctor can monitor the child and prescribe medicine (she gave my daughter some Tylenol immediately afterwards and everything was fine).
