How to get my 20 month old daughter to give up her dummy, which she only has at naps and bedtime?

When my kids were that age I teased them all the time about it being yucky and they should throw it in the garbage. One day they followed through and threw it away. I left it in there. When night came they were sad, but I reminded them that they threw it in the garbage and it was now dirty. They each accepted it and did fine without it. Though it took a couple nights of reminding them it was in the garbage. It worked for all 3 of mine. I didn't push it though. I figure as long as it was limitedto bed it wasn't that big of deal. My daughter got rid of hers at 18 months and my sons each were around 2-2 1/2.
