How to get restfor a totally stressed mama?!

Does Anyone have a good way to get a 21month old to start sleeping through the night? My son use to sleep all night but a few months ago after being ill with the flu he started waking up in the middle of the night. He will cry until we bring him to bed with us, and frankly being pregnant with my third I am just to exhusted to do otherwise. It is hard to just let him cry because we have a nine year old daughter that needs to sleep [for school] in the room next to his. I am desperate, there are a few nights that I can lay him back down and sleep but it takes almost an hour. I am out of ideas!

Although you are really tired at nights if you keep letting him win and bring him onto your bed you will never get him out. It is going to take a lot of energy but you have to let him cry it out. When he cries be firm with him and lay him back down and leave the room. Let him cry for 10 minutes then go back in and lay him back down and then wait 15 minutes then go back in lay him down. Do not talk to him, do not give him a cuddle, do not give him eye contact. (I know it sounds rough) he will get the message that no matter how much fuss he kicks up he is not going to win. This is purely about control. He has learnt that screaming gets your attention and if he continues he gets rewarded with a nice cosy bed.

I would suggest your daughter goes to stay with Nan for a few days as on adverage it takes about three nights to break the cycle. Make sure you have plenty of rest during the day to make up for lost sleep. Also make dad do his share of putting him down to sleep!

5195 isn't bad, I do it. The thing is is that you're expecting and that's going to be hard. Does he take naps? What time does he go to bed? Do you have a set routine?
