I am a single mom trying to decide how to explain to my 8 yr old daughter why her father has never been in her life..because the answer is he has never and doesn't want too the point I don't even know where he is or how to get ahold of him...(even if I wanted to which I Don't) but my daughter really wants to know who he is and where he is and why he's not here... I don't know how to tell her without hurting her... any ideas would be great...

Hi, I have a similar situation but I was together with my sons Dad until my son was about 2. My son is now 7. It's been a constant struggle to keep him involved in a positive way but he has now said that he is happy to see my son once or twice a year. So my son knows him, he knows that he lives about 20minutes away but he doesn't understand why he doesn't see his dad. He has pretty much totally removed himself but still believes he is a great Dad. I have been trying to figure out the best way to deal with it and I've come to realise that the best way to answer my son is that I don't understand some people, how they can just walk away from their children...I try and keep whatever I am saying to my son as truthful as possible, age appropriate of course. It's a tough one, I know...I do think sometimes it's just better if they don't know the parent that has 'absconded' son still remembers spending good times with his dad. All we have to do is show our little ones how much we love them....I do believe that with extra extra love and attention they will one day realise that mommy just did her best and sometimes these men are just not good enough to take on any parenting responsibility! I'm sorry friend...
