If there is one thing I can promise you it's that you can ever plan a labor and birth. It will NEVER go the way you expect it to go.

My daughter was pretty easy. I went into labor but it stalled out, then went to the doctor and he said "yep, 3 cm. Let's go have a baby!" gave me pitocin and later that afternoon I had a little girl without any pain medications.

Skip forward 5 years (just 4 short months ago, actually) and I am crying, exhausted, and in labor again...FOR SIX FRICKIN' DAYS!!!! I went to the hospital THREE TIMES thinking "Oh, this HAS to be it": nope. Never made it past 1 cm for 5 days. Finally on the 6th day I called the doctor on call and I basically said this: "I know you won't induce me because I'm only 37 weeks. But I'm exhausted. I've been doing this for 5 days now and there is no end in sight. If I come in to the hospital I want YOUR WORD that you will admit me, give me fluids and sleeping pills and pain medication so I can at least sleep for 4 hours." She promised so I went in to the hospital...and I was at 3 cm again. *face palm* I labored naturally until I hit transition and by that point I was so exhausted I got the damn epidural. Best choice ever: I was able to relax enough that my body could work and let me dilate fully. Two hours and 6 pushes later I had a perfectly healthy baby boy. And I STILL haven't gotten a good night's sleep. :P

So...the point to my rambling story is...don't count yer chickens before they hatch. This next birth could be a breeze (and I sincerely hope it is, btw!) or it could totally suck. Usually second births are easier and faster, but you never know. Good luck and enjoy your labor and birth and you newest addition! :)

fast! my mucas plug came out at 8:30 am contractions started geting closer and closer together. hospital at 10:30 ish. the epidural only half worked, as i had to lay on my side bcuz he was having dcells, so that was rough but i only pushed for 10 mins, no tearing (bonus!). he had his cord wrapped lightly around his neck but was a-ok.
with my daughter i pushed for 34 mins with an epidural that worked quite well. i tore with her though, which made healing hard. it was only 2 stitches but still quite painful. three days after birth i walked to the store which should have taken 15-20 mins each way and it took 2 hrs :/
with my second (now almost 5 months old) i have bad back problems now. i think one of my hips is stuck (not moving the way it should) which makes my right hip and lower back quite painful, i have to get my hubby to do alot of my bending, especially at night to get him out of his crib.

good luck, hope all goes well with you!

Mine was defidetly easier and less painful. With my first m labor was about 10 hours and I was in severe pain and had an asthma attack. It was decided an epidural was in mine and my baby's best intrest. The checked me right before I got the epideral I wa at five and ten minutes ae that I delivered a baby. With my secong one I was induced at 36 1/2 weeks. Start to finish was 4 hours 20 mins. He scared the hell out of me because his cord was rapped around his neke 3 times. He came out blue and the doctor determined the cause was behe decended so quicly. I had another epidral with him so we could prevent another asthma attack. But even before it I had very little pain.

It was faster, still hurt. I was much more confident, so i think it was a slightly better experience. Except for the cord being wrapped around my sons neck and there was meconium in the amniotic fluid because it stressed him out. That part was a bit scary.
Every birth is different, hope your next goes well, good luck.

Mine was longer, harder and more painful. I had my son in 4hrs 31 mins drug free. My daughter took 5hrs 7mins with gas and air.
