My daughter, now 12months, used to love bathtime. Now she screams every time we get close to the bath. I don't think anything obvious happened, like her hurting herself, she just seems to have suddenly decided she loathes bathtime. I don't want to force her into the bath and have her hate it even more, but she's getting a little stinky.

Any ideas as to how to calm her fears?

Will she tolerate being sat in the bath with no water in it and a bucket of soapy water next to her? Then you just sponge her with the soapy water. Will she take a shower with you or dad? Does she still complain if there is only a small amount like one inch of water in the bottom of the bath? Or what about you or her dad getting in the bath with her and playing games with some bath toys.

LOL A lot of kids do this. I don't know why. get her cool toys she can play with in the tub. Try having her play when there is no water in the tub.
Let her play with water outside the tub ... pouring, in the sink ... try adding color to the water - make it blue or pink
Try bathing with her ... let her wash her baby doll while you wash her .... the crayons you get for the tub are a fun way to get them in .... good luck

Hi Lydea, my little man went through the exact same phase at that age. We switched to showers for a while - either on his own or with my husband or me. Could your little one have a slightly sore bum - I know my little man would get a sore bum everytime he was teething and hated the bath. Are you getting in the bath with her? Sometimes that helps as they feel safer! What about bubbles too (if you don't already use them) - we have just discovered bubbles again to make bath time more fun (get good quality stuff so it doesn't dry out their skin). I hope your little one passes through this phase quickly!

Here begins her individuality. She is starting figuring out what she has control of. Power struggles are going to start soon. My son went through thw same thing. It is normal and healthy for them to do this. I hope you work through this soon.

You shouldn't use bubble bath with little girls as it causes UTIs. Have you tried maybe just soaping up a wash rag and rubbing her down the using a clean one to wash the soap away. Like sponge bath style??

It's a completely normal phase for babies to go through. Just make them as quick as possible till it passes.
