Hyphenating baby's last name when not with the father

My due date is in a few days and I have been back and forth about giving my coming daughter just my last name or hyphenating both. The father and I are not together anymore and the entire time I've been pregnant he has been more concerned about trying to date this other woman than be supportive for this child until the last month or so, when he is no longer with the other girl anymore. He says he wants to be involved and with the military I know he will have child support automatically taken from his pay. He has another child from a pervious marriage and he is a good father to that child, but things are always so bipolar between him and I that I'm not sure what's best for our daughter since she will be with me the majority of the time and he will have visitation. What will be easier in the long run for my child and myself legally and socially, for instance when she starts school!? For her to have my name or both? If both, should it be my last name then his, or vice versa?

I wouldn't bother with his name at all. He doesn't deserve it if he was too busy chasing another skirt.
Give your baby your name and you can still name him as the Father on the birth certificate.
