I Held You - A Poem I wrote and dedicate to my beautiful babies

I held you in my hopes and dreams

Before I knew your name

And when I learned that you would come

I knew life would never be the same

I held you in my rounded womb

And kept you safe and warm

And waited for the day to come

When I would hold you in my arms

I held you in my trembling arms

The day you came to Earth

Awed by how much I loved you

From the moment of your birth

I held you close to soothe your cry

Endless night after night

But for every minute of lost sleep

It always felt alright

I hold you in the late of night

When darkness invades your dreams

I dry your tears and calm your fears

And show you things are not always what they seem

I hold your tiny hand in mine

When we cross the street

The honour of watching you learn and grow

Makes me feel complete

I hold you tight in our own world

A giant tiny hug

Happy for that perfect moment

When we are both safe and snug

I hold you in my sights

Wondering how you’ll grow and who you’ll be

But all I see for now

Is a better version of me

I hold for you so many wishes for you

That you will have a happy life

Know that Mommy loves you

Know a world without fear or strife

I hold you in my thoughts my dear

Even when we are apart

Because the truth is

Is that I hold you in my heart

Thanks. I try to cherish every moment I have with them. Sometimes it's hard (like when you're scrubbing crayon off your dishwasher) but I know all too soon that they will be off on their own and I won't get the honor of seeing them every day.

So beautiful! Thanks for sharing. I needed to be reminded of th profound beauty of children despite the chaos and frustration. Again, thank you.
