It drives me absolutly bonkers when I see people type like this. Especially when I know the person and I know that they know how to spell.

My question is what is the point of adding extra letters to a word or changing the spelling of a word completly?

Is it to make you look cooler? Because IMO it just makes people look dumber.

Also ily. Is it that hard to actually spell out I love you.

Sorry one of the things that annoys me the most.

Although we are free to criticize posts on this site, and our critique may be warranted, what magnificent gain will be received by anyone emotionally, spiritually, or physically by voicing our annoyances in such a manner? Being right is irrelevant then. It is much harder but also much more rewarding to lead by example, don't you agree? We also, after all, have the right to ignore things that are annoying and respond only to things that are palatable to us. We can even choose to block. In my opinion, the high road is a better choice all around because the doors are left open. Do unto others as you would want someone to do for ...your immature friend, daughter, sister, or your self when you act in a way less wisely than you'd care to remember.

If the OP is Kayle who started this discussion, then you are correct. My most sincere apologies for my lack of clarity.

I'm sorry cheryl but i have to agree with Kayle. If you're old enough to type, you're old enough to know basic spelling and grammar.

I've just read through all the posts b4.....hahaha before me and I have to say that as a mom of a 16 yr old girl I hate the text talk and discourage her using it when talking to me on line but I did want to point out that this site COM's is for mom's of all ages and girls are having babies awfully young these days. Some of the mom's on here are no older than my own 16 yr old. This is how they have learned (note...NOT been tought) to communicate with eachother and we as the older (maybe wiser) mom's should try to discourage it as gently as we can. I don't think it is so much stupidity and it is laziness. It is so much easier and faster to type ur instead of your and so on and so forth. What drives me even more crazy is the lack of Capitalization and punctuation. What are our young people learning in school these days? Can't they at least still teach them how to spell correclty and use your vs you're and there vs their.

I don't expect perfection but my kids will NOT be typing/talking/spelling like this. believe it or not my brother actually TALKS this way! it drives me insane. I can understand texting this way, especially if you have a limited number of texts every month, but come on-on faceook? in an e-mail? Is it really that difficult to spell out the words and try and use a little bit of punctuation? I'm not asking for perfection, just a period or question mark at the end of a sentence/question! I can also understand a bit of misspelling or letters that have been hit accidentally but words that only have one letter in relation to the actual word? come on!

I agree. I love English and this chat/text talk just bothers me to the point where I don't want to read the chat or text.

"Also don't forget that American English is very different then other English."

It's not THAT different.....not really. We may spell some things differently or have different words for some things, or pronounce them differently, but the basic English language doesn't have numbers in it, and vowels are also an important part of word formation.....

Ah, if I don't see it in the heading, and happen to click on the thread and find it in the OP, I just leave. Not worth my time. They're probably to dense or immature to bother actually thinking about what the other posters have to say. And I don't have Facebook friends who write crap like that. I'm not 14.

I totally agree!! Unless you are tweeting and are limited to 140 spaces or something....everyone should practice typing correctly. I think we are actually raising a whole generation that speaks in acronyms...LOL! OMG! IDK, IDC, IOU, ILY, WTH?

Dana I think the OP clearly stated she is speaking about facebook, and stuff like that. I understand were you are coming from OP, I have a lot of my 12 year olds friends on my facebook, and I am froced to read that type of typing alot. Do I understand it? No.. I have asked my daugther why her friends do this, she claims its partly that they do not know how to spell well (that is our school systems faults as here children no longer have to do spelling tests), and they also think its really cool, and gets their point across when they over type things like YAYYYYY I AMMMMM GOINNNNNNGGG TOOO THE MALLLLLLLLL!. They truely do not realize how silly it looks.

Jennifer, I have to agree. I can't handle "text speak". One or two words while IN a text, fine. But for use in emails, facebook, etc? Hell no. I'm already hammering it home to my 8 yr old that in order to be taken seriously in life, you have to communication clearly

I was not bashing anyone intellegence but for example my 12 year old niece constantly texts and types like that, almost to the point that I wonder if she even really knowa how to spell. It does make her look trashy, especially when she puts it all over her facebook.

I'm not talking about on here. I am actually talking about people on my facebook that I've been friends with since high school or some of my family. I also see that no one is allowed to post their oppinion anywhere with out some one bashing them. =) I accept your bashing because oh how "trashy" does it sound for you to come back at me. =)

Have a wonderful day!

Some of these posts come from different countries and they are translated to English. Other posts are written by people who don't read/write/speak English as their first language. How about just cutting people some slack.....there are so many of us who use this forum as a real tool to deal with real issues. If stuff like this bothers you and you can't find true meaning in some of the posts why not just ignore it? Wow!

If I open a post that is horrendously illegible due to laziness or whatever, I just go to the next one. You can generally tell if someone who is posting did not grow speaking English. But if you did and you can't be bothered to use it correctly, then I can't be bothered to read your illegible dribblings

I don't know how peoples brains work like that. It actually takes a hell of a lot more effort to write" Lyke Dis" than it does not write "like this". Mind Boggling, really.

Its absolutely friggen retarded to see type like that. All you've shown me is that you are asking advice because you are..
1. lazy as hell. You're so friggen lazy that TYPING is a damned effort
2. You're stupid. Obviously so - because spell check is a task that is beyond your capabilities.

Thanks for posting this!

i agree with the abreviation bit but if the extra letters are a typo because they havent checked the text before pressing post then thats harmless. but i must admit i dont understand hald of the abreviations on here or my phone for that matter. i did once ask my son though why he got good marks for work from school when the spelling and writing were bad and he said they dont care in that class because its not litterature or grammar class it was science and writing and spelling have nothing to do with science

I just assume that people are too upset to write properly . . . the alternative (ie: that they just don't care!) is too scary for me :o)
