I'm in canada, and when the same thing happened I was asked to walk and walk and walk to try to get contractions to start, after 4 hours they never did so they just put me on pitocin, no gel and did not send me home due to risk of infection, anyways it all turned out fine and I had him that night, good luck and congrats!!!

Oh, its exciting! Your baby is nearly here!

My waters started leaking with my second labour and the contractions started very slowly and mildly about 6 hours later. I called the hospital and was told to come in even though the contractions weren't strong because there is a risk of infection to the baby and I had to have injections (antibiotics I think) just in case. I think labour would be induced 24 hour after waters break cos of the risk.

I hope all goes well and you'll be fine - just try to relax!!

It varies from place to place. Here in Canada, you would get a gel inserted up against your cervix to soften it and start labour, then once you start progressing, you will sometimes be put on oxytocin through an IV to get things really going. Sometimes the gel gets you going so you don't need anything else though. None of it actually hurts, except the labour part, and you can ask for pain meds if you need them. I would not worry too much. Best thing for you and baby right now is to try to relax and maybe get a little sleep (trust me, you'll need the sleep later).  Good luck, and congrats on your soon-to-be-here little one :D
