My daughter is a year old, is walking and loves going to the park. The only problem is that our parks are all near slow moving water so, I'm a little worried about mosquitoes. I've looked at various low DEET (5-7%) options that say you can use them on children over 6 months old. Are they really safe? Are there any other things I can use?

We use a product called Natrapel. No DEET at all. I got it at REI, but you might be able to find it at other locations.

OH! Forgot about the Avon Skin so Soft. They've got one that's a repellant and has SPF 30. The scent gives me a headache so I stopped getting it for my kids.

Avon Skin-so-soft (the 'bath oil' with the blue cap) is a very effective insect repellent.

I think OFF has a low DEET cream formula that's good for the whole family. I've used it before (out at the moment) and it works really well. I think they also make a spray. I always make sure to get their arms (skip the hands), legs and clothing. If it's a spray then I spray some on my hands to get their necks and faces.
