Is it possible that she's having night terrors? She may be young for that, but who knows. Google it and do some reading to see if that describes your situation. If its happening after she's been asleep for about 1-2 hours, then it could be that. A night terror is when they are shifting from one sleep stage to another and they kind of get stuck in a semi-wakeful state, appear awake (but really aren't) and are very upset. It just takes time till the terror passes, then they can go back to regular sleep again. They typically don't remember it after that; its more upsetting for the parents than it is for the child.

My son went through this for a time, but it resolved over a number of months. We just had to keep him safe as he thrashed about and wait it out until it was over. If it continues, there are some measures that parents can take to try to head it off at the pass.

Hopefully this is a short-lived phase. If it isn't night terrors, I suppose little ones could have nightmares? I don't know if there's any real way to determine that. Good luck...hope you get some peaceful sleep soon!
