It is normal for his age to be using only a few words like the ones you put in the OP. You are trying to get him to do things he will eventually do when he can. He is developing at his own rate. You can not expect him to talk all of a sudden. Language is a skill that is learned over a lot of time. By the time he hits the age of 3 he should have the ability to use a few words in sentences but not a big lot. He will only understand simple words. I am not sure what you are trying to get him to use but stay with simple words, also do not use baby words or talk and use normal conversations. When he points to an object tell him what it is. When he wants something try to get him to say the name of the thing he wants or help him through the process. You can not expect a child this age to know everything already. THey still have a lot of connections to make in their little lives and it will be a while before they do some things. Just enjoy him; do not be in a hurry to grow him up.
