Is it normal that my two year old is not really talking? He says mom, dad,up,down, bye,hi but he doesnt talk all the time nor can he put sentences togther. He is very smart he just doesnt talk.

My brother was like that because I was the talker and I'm older by 3 years. I wouldn't worry about it either. He probably is absorbing everything and doesn't feel the need to talk because his siblings do it for him.

Britney, I've heard that too. Or it's that they understand what the younger sibling wants so the younger one doesn't have to vocalize as much.

At any rate, I wouldn't be too concerned. He sounds within the normal range to me anyways. My son went from only saying a handful of words and then suddenly, within 2 months he was forming sentences, learned hundreds of words, could count to ten and could identify all the letters in the alphabet either verbally or by pointing them out when asked.

He's probably just absorbing it all in right now. When he grunts or gestures for something just repeat his request back to him clearly with words. Keep talking, singing, reading, asking questions and helping him form simple responses.

Its totally normal, I wouldnt be too worried. My daughter used to point at everything, you's go ' say apple' and she's point at it so I'd go ' say apple' and she has this look that she would give me like ' I just showed you werent you listening?' lol. I got some flash cards and we would practise them, even if she didnt say the word right but would try I would tell her good job. It seemed to click all of a sudden and she started talking more and forming sentences. I also tell her when she will point at something to ' use your words' so I'm acknowledging that she wants something but making her say it, some days she will get upset with this so I tell her ' say drink please mummy' before I give it to her. He will get there is just might take a while

Ok see he has 2 older twin brothers.Their 3 years old and I read something that if they have older siblings they wont talk b/c the older siblings will just do it for them. But yea I know he can talk and put sentences together but I have never heard him say it. He knows how to say mom and dad but he doesnt say it when he wants something so maybe I will try ignoring him when he wants something to get him to say what he wants. He's dr wanted him to go to a hearing dr to see if anything was wrong with his hearing and he passed so I know there is nothing wrong with him he just doesnt want to talk I guess. But thanks for the advice

He probably can put sentences together. He just doesn't have to! My daughter wont speak often (i know she can, i hear her constructing full sentences when shes playing in her room talking to her dolls). When Its us, she points and grunts to ask me for things. Shes smart enough that she figured out how to get what she wanted without talking. So I started telling her i didn't know what she meant when she used non verbal communication, then she started talking more.
