Is it ok to ask for gas money?

Lately whenever my daugther has an activity or event she needs to go to, I am the one who drives all her friends around. I do not mind this, but I told her I was thinking that it would be nice if the other parents could at least chip in some money for the gas, especially since the cost is so high anymore. My daughter was mortified and said that I couldn't embarass her that way! Do you think that it is wrong to ask the other parents for some gas money once in a while ? I know if it where the other way around, I would be asking these parents if they wanted any money for gas.......
Just wondering what other Moms thought .................

I guess it really depends on how much you're driving and if you are picking the girls up at their homes. If it was just a 15 minute trip, then I'd say probably not. However, if you're going an hour away, then I would say yes. Also, is it the same trip every week? Are you driving 30 minutes each way to get them to a lesson 50 times a year? Because then, I think I would ask for some help with the gas. An alternative would be to ask if they want to take turns driving. They might get the hint and volunteer the money instead.

Unless you're dropping them off and picking them up at home, you're just doing as much driving as you would be anyway, so I'm not sure asking for gas money is appropriate. If you're doing more, driving them all around, I don't think it's bad to ask for gas money, or tell the girls that you take your coffee with one cream, one sugar as a hint for them to chip in a little. It's an important social lesson for them to learn. (one that probably the parents should be teaching, but parents don't always catch everything)

I wouldnt you would be driving your daughter anyway. I may offer another parent money gas money but wouldn't take it if offered. If you're strapped for cash then explain to the other parents they'll either kick in gas money or find another way to get there kids to where they're going.

I would, especially if there are one or two that are always with her. Call them up on the phone or go in and ask them when you pick them up.
