My daughter will be 2 months on Monday and I've never cleaned out her ears and now I see some white stuff I'm assuming is wax or maybe soap or shampoo build up. I know even in adults its not ok to go in the ear canal but can I or should I be cleaning the outer ear. I think I should and that I probably should have been at least maybe once a week, I just never thought about till now cause I can see they're dirty. Is there a specific way I should do it? What do u do or what have you done?

NEVER put anything IN the ear. Now, the outer part you can wipe with a wash cloth or a tissue or something. If there is white discharge coming out of her ears I would talk to your doctor about a possible infection.

The skin that goes into your ear grows outward thus removing the unneeded wax from inside your ear. It is fine to clean away this wax once it is outside the ear canal. But it is not recommended to stick anything into you or your child's ear. If you look at a Q-tip box most say do not use in the ear! Some people do have issues with the skin with in the ear not growing in the proper direction, your dr can then give better types on how to clean such area. If there is an odd discharge coming from the ear check with your pediatrician, you do not want an infection to be lingering that in some way shape or form could affect your baby's hearing. That was the answer that I received when I asked my son's pediatrician that question.
