Joining Air Force as enlisted, lose custody of child?

I am currently trying to join the Air Force since they're allowing single parents to join. They claim that I will not have to "give up" custody of my 5 year old daughter if I join. I'm not sure if this is entirely true? My ex is threatening that if I do join, he will take away custody from me. He currently only has visitation rights but has been working, making good money. I have full physical and legal custody but an order that states I cannot move more than 150 miles away. He has been living over 200 miles away for the past 8 months. Has anyone lost custody due to joining? I know that Gov. Granholm did pass laws stating that a parents custody cant be decided on the basis of military duty.. any help?

You wouldn't "lose" custody because you joined, but you could be told you may not take the child with you if you move (if that makes any sense) so you may essentially be forced to hand custody over to the father. The point is, the judge will decide based on the best interests of the child and IF you moving means your child can't have a relationship with dad, then basically, yes, the judge could decide against giving you that permission. If you can find a way to join AND still keep up with dad's current visitation, then there is no real argument to be had.
