juice or no juice

can't seem to get my girl away from the juices. we do half water, half juice but i really want the juice gone. help.

we do the half juice half water thing as well. and we make sure that he is only getting the 100% juice, no added sugar etc. (so no koolaid, icetea, pop etc) but his real favorite juice right now is the V8 fruit juice combo :) so yay for that!

How old is your daughter?? Mine is now 6, and will drink juice or water all day no milk, so we buy calcium fortified juices for her. The pediatrician and her dentist both said it is fine.. as long as we are using 100% juice and not stuff like kool aid or any of thsoe other mixes. If younger than 2, I'd say to try to get her to drink more wter now... it will make it easier later!

as long as it's really diluted it should be fine to still give juice. the advice i was given was 1 part juice (cordial or fruit) to 4 parts water. was also told just to give juice at meal times and water or milk rest of time but i don't always do that. as long as teeth get brushed everyday it shouldn't be anything to worry about. good luck.

What about "sneaky juice"? V8 makes a strawberry flavored juice that has a full serving of vegetables in every glass. I mean its not as good as him eating REAL veggies, but if he just has to have his juice, then thats the way to go!

i gice my 14mth old water and milk noooo juice

i tryed and she didn't like it so i just don't bother besides many of my friends kids won't even touch water it has to be juice... if they never had it they won't miss it

As a dental assistant in a pediatric office, we reccomend juice only with meals followed by a swish of water--its not quantity but frequency that decays teeth at an alarming rate! Although juice has natural sugar it harms teeth as much as soda, especially when given in a sippy cup--the child sucks up bathing the teeth in fructose. Therfore juice/milk when sitting with meals and water for the inbetween.

Juice really isn't a bad thing for your child.
It really helps clean out their system too. If you notice she may have slight diareaha too.
Wich is normal.
But if your worried about the sugar content. Then try switching to the gerber juice specially for toddlers and babies.

If a child is drinking because its thirsty then they will drink whatever you give them but if a child is drinking for the sake of it then there could be issues.... How old is your daughter?

Juice is good up to a point but like i say if a child is genuinley thirsty they will drink water i dilute my squash 1 part squash/juice to 5/6 parts water

I tell my son that juice is only for breakfast time. He can drink milk at lunch and dinner and water during the day. He asks for juice all the time but I say no. He throws a fit sometime and has even thrown his sippy cup on the floor, but eventually comes back and drinks it when has had calmed down.

Our son doesn't drink juice (unless it's at daycare). If your daughter is already use to having juice a lot it is probably hard to make her want something else. Maybe slowly keep watering it down until it's nothing but water. Or be sneaky and get some awesome cup (maybe with those huge curly straws) and say its only made for milk or water (whichever). That could make her more inclined to drink something else.

I don't see a problem so long as you dilute the juice. My now 7 year old still drinks juice often, but not the extent that he did much younger. He has learned to drink water very well and I agree that juice is far preferable to sodas or koolaid. Especially if you are watching the sugar intake in snacks don't worry about giving healthy juice, just slip a little plain water occasionally so she gets the taste for that as well

my 4 year old is a juiceaholic too...but honestly i'd rather she drink juice than soda or koolaid! she does drink water and milk too. i make sure only to buy the 100% juice though. and what we do is put about one ounce of juice in the cup and then fill it up with water so she's really not getting much juice.
