I have been so lax about this and have always forgotten to ask my pediatrician so I am wondering how much juice I should be giving my 7 1/2 month old per day? Also - what kind of juices (i.e. flavors) can I give him (I have only given him apple juice so far and I've heard to avoid orange juice until he is much older...)

A small amount of 100% fruit or veg juice as long as it is no added sugar, watered down will not cause any harm after meals, however, i recommend Water, babies don't get board of a drink and it is the best thing for them in between milk feeds. It's entirley your choice and what you think is best for your baby. x

I was told by my ped that as soon as your kid is eating you can give them a cup of juice a day. Apple, Grape, White Grape. Orange has too much acid to give before a year old. One of there cups not ours and it should be 100% juice. But if you perfer not to give them juice that is YOUR choice. Every parent is different.

I have been giving my son atleast one glass of juice a day since he was six months. It depends on your child and your doctor. Mine told me to go ahead since my son seemed to be constipated every day. My doctor also advised me of giving my son V8 fusion since its fruit and vegtable juice. He gets two glasses a day since he does not like to eat vegtables and he is allergic to fresh fruit.

My sons pediatrician told me that he could have up to 4 ounces of juice a day as long as it was 100% fruit juice. My son is 6 months old. He gets a few sips from his sippy cup after each meal to wash his food down. I aslo have a 2 1/2 year old that I started giving juice to when he was 6 months old, and now he prefers milk.

YIPES - thanks SOOOOO much everyone! I will hold off on the juice! Very true they are full of sugars and I rarely give him any anyway, so I will hold off until he is much older! Good to know. I know I heard that you can give babies juice starting at 4 months and I always thought that was too young. Plus one of my friends has a baby the same age as mine and she gives her baby juice daily so I thought I would ask bc I just wasn't sure. Thanks again - very helpful!!!

We do that also for our 20 month old Meghan after she was over a year old. Once in a blue moon she will get some watered down Juice for the fun of it. But it isnt daily its a treat like any other junk. 7 1/2 month olds dont need treats though...

I know everyone says not to but I get bored of just having water all the time. My son is 17 months and I started giving him juice around a year. He gets half a sippy cup of the fruit and veggie juice maybe once or twice a week and only after he has had breakfast.

I agree with Amanda; none. Why does he need them? It's full of sugar abd loads of other unnatural rubbish and totally unnecessary. Water is the best thing (other than BM or formula).

None, 7 1/2 month old doesnt need any juice. Juice isnt good for anyone, its full of sugar, and acids. Give him water, its the best thing for him to drink for the rest of his life, so start the good habit now.

I only gave a small small amount prior to 2 years of age. I used it when my son was not pooping like he should. At that age I don't think you should be giving daily. Juice has lots of sugar ( natural or not). I personally would not offer it as a daily drink. stick to milk and water.
