Just Saying - More Hugs.

I need to give my kids more hugs. There was a short phase where it seemed all I did was tell them to do this. Tell them to do that. Fight over this or that. Well one day I was so frustrated I just grabbed my little girl and hugged the daylights out of her. It felt so good. So I kept doing it. Then my son came home from school and I did it with him. They crave it. So I would keep doing it for no reason other than I love them. There behavior improved dramatically. I think it is time to start doing that again. Just a thought. Thanks for listening.

We went through this very thing! I noticed my daughter acting out far more, talking back and just have a generally pissy attitude. So I began hugging her. Alot. Ridiculously. And she would laugh, relax and chat with me again like the sweet child I knew she was. WHEW. I even make my kids hug when they fight. They hate it! But they always end up laughing or at least running off to play again until their next sibling drama. We also say "I love you" all the time. Either secret code (three love taps or squeezes on the arm/leg) or we say "143!" which is "I love you!" and they love it. Friends always ask them what they are doing. haha!

I love the tantrum hugs. I hug him when he's throwing a tantrum. I'll hug him softly..I don't let him hurt himself...and then when he's calming down, I move us to the recliner and start rocking. Those quiet down moments are some of my favorite minutes of the day. We may sit there for 20 minutes or more!
He will turn to me and jammer on with one hand flapping in the air...telling me all about why he was so MAD! His little bottom lip pokes out..and his chin wrinkles up. Tears well up in my eyes, he's so beautiful, and so smart, and so confused....
I love the tantrum hugs.

How twisted is THAT?

YES! I find it so easy to get that way with my sweet little guy, and and even my husband. You get so focused on getting stuff done, keeping the house clean, "don't throw rocks," etc... Sometimes I forget to just squeeze the bejesus out of them and make sure they know that they are my life. Thanks for the reminder. I am gonna go hug mine now! :)

You made me smile! Thank you for sharing this experience. I can relate! Sometimes when I'm in chore mode asking everyone to help, they expect me to tell them to do something, but I'll just say, "I love you!" Make sure you get lots of those in with your hugs!
