Just wait. Try eating more healthy items. Did you stop your prenatals? If you can, you might to add them back to your diet.

I went through the same thing. I had to hugely modify my diet, but I'll bet that by the time the vitamins kicked in, the hormones wore off.

Ther eis a major shift in hormones about 12 weeks after you baby is born, that causes you to lose a lot of hair (the hair you didn't lose while pregnant) Almost 12 weeks to the day of my daughter being born mine started to fall out. I would brush my hair and have to clean out my brush 3 and 4 times each time I used it. It is perfectly normal and does eventually stop (I think it took about 2 weeks for mine to stop falling out so quickly). I wouldn't worry, just continue to eat healthy and take a daily vitamin (especially if you're breastfeeding).

Don't freak out girlie! This happened to me and then a year later to my best friend. I later read that it is completely normal and most of the time it has nothing to do with anything eccept your hormone levels going back to the way it used to be! I was so worried when it happened to me. I blamed it on losing all my nutrients during breastfeeding! Stress!
Dude, I had a receding hair line! I couldn't put my hair in a ponytail for months. Then it grew back and I was fine. Don't worry!

My hair dresser actually warned me about this. It is called post partum alopecia. In a few months your hair should start coming out the way it use to prior to getting pregnant.

I lost hair after I had my daughter too, and I was FREAKING OUT!!! but... eventually... about 2 or so months later, i started noticing little hairs coming in by my ears, (which is where i lost most of it), soooo... just wait it out, it'll stop. But i agree, IT STINKS!

I totally freaked out when it happened to me, but it is getting back to normal now. Have hope, it'll slow down. Your hair will never be the same as it was pre-pregnancy, what will though??

It will eventually stop, but it's horrible! My hair loss started at around 16 weeks post-partum and lasted for about a month. I felt like a chemo patient, and yes, I did cry at least once. I have lots of new hair coming in now, but it was horrible!

I thought it would never stop, but it did eventually... i think when my daughter was 9 mos... I cant' remember now. Then when it grows in you have these nice short hairs... just an added benefit to the post-preg look. :) Someday we'll look normal again... I hope!

I lost TONS of hair after my pregnancy... i was scared I would be bald. Dr said very normal when the pregnancy hormones change in your body to affect your hair....

[deleted account]

It's common for a traumatic experience to your body (like having a baby or surgery) to cause your hair to fall out 3 or 4 months afterward. Don't fret. It happened to me with both of my kids and I'm experiencing it now from a surgery I had 4 months ago. It seems like you shouldn't have any hair left there is so much coming out, but it will stop! And you won't go bald, I promise;) Definitely keep taking prenatals and try to get plenty of sleep and this should help. Don't recommend buying expensive products to put in your hair to help the "perception" of thicker hair. In my opinion it's a waste of money. Good luck!

The same was with me. Everything stopped without doing nothing, because I just couldn't find time for it. Wish it was soon over for you.

That happened to me too. About three months after my son was born my hair start falling out by the handful. It was devastating!!! It's been almost 7 months now and it seems to have slowed down a lot. You just need to be patient. I did my hair in a lot of different up do's (I have really long hair) too keep it from getting everywhere throughout my day. Hormones is definitely the culprit. Just make sure you're eating well and getting enough exercise and it will all even itself out.

You should get check by your doctor as there are medical conditons that cause that..Don't let your doctor put it off as just having a baby..As that can mask signs of what is wrong..A blood test will tell alot--check for diabetis ,thirod, hormons, iron that is a few to check...

hello amanda! i am a hairstylist after having a baby it seams as if you are loosing a lot of hair but your really not on an average it is normal to loose 100 or more hairs per day without being pregnant so i would say if you are loosing more than this you may need to check with your doc all you usually need is vitamins or new diet

It's most likely a hormonal thing. Various autoimmune diseases cause hairloss as well. I have Sjogren's Syndrome and lose a lot of hair especially after pregnancy. Unfortunately many of these can not be tested for until there are additional symptoms. If it persist there may be an underlying issue (not necesarily a serious one) The odds are in your favour it will go away on its own.

My son will be a year old in a couple of weeks and my hair is still falling out. I just had three inches cut off last week, still falling out. All blood test have come back good, no thyroid problems. I've started taking a one a day vitamin and I'm hoping that will help. Any Suggestions?

Nope its a hormone thing, when we are pregnant we keep it, then after birth it all comes out ) the stuff we would have lost normally) About 3 months after I gave birth, I stood in my shower pulling out gobs of hair......... its ok, you aren't odd, unless you are starting to show signs of bald spots then I'd call the doctor.

i think it's our hormones plus stress.I have the same problem. I went through a lot of blood test and everything was normal. Ask your Dr. if he/she could check your thyroid and other bloood test.,and also continue taking your prenatal vitamins.

I recently read that the reason your hair is so great during pregnancy is because you shed less of it. This would explain why after babies are born, our hair seems to fall out more! But really, it's totally normal. I have whispies on the side of my head, above my ears, and at the back of my neck still and my son is 16 months old... Just comes with the territory of being a new mommy :-)

If it continues I would have the thyroid levels checked out. Hair loss is a symtom of thyroid disorder which happens after child birth.
