Menustral Cycle

Our 12 year old daughter has just started her period. I just wanted to say that we are so proud of her for doing such a great job with it. She cried a little the first day, but quickly became very independent, and did a wonderful job. She also went to school the next day and had no problems! I wanted to let all of you "Tween" moms out there know that I started discussing this issue with her at an early age, probably around 8 years old or so. Against my mother's judgement, I might add. We talked about it, I showed her the pads, and how they are used, etc.

I believe that by me doing this early has helped her to be the positive, independent 12 year old girl she is today. I am so thankful I did not wait to discuss it later on. Hope this is some help for you other mom's of young blossoming girls!

Good to know!

I started talking to my girls at 7. ;) They're only 10 now, so no start yet, but I have a feeling it'll show w/in the next year or two.

I had ONE 'talk' (that I remember) w/ my mom after my class had a 'period movie' when I was in the 7th grade. I started my first a few months later, but was so unprepared that I was in denial that whole first cycle.

That's one of the reasons I never wanted girls, but I AM doing better for them.

You were very smart to do so! Many girls start their periods at age 9 nowadays, so it is very appropriate to make sure that by age 7 or 8, that they know about periods, how they work, etc, so that when they DO start, they're not surprised and frightened.
