Military Posting and Child Custody.

My sons father has been in the military since I met him. The first year of my sons life his dad was never around and this year he got posted to Newfoundland and will be gone for a minimum of 3 years. He barely calls, maybe once every couple weeks to talk to our son. Before he left for his posting we went to mediation and got a court order made up for our custody saying that I had full custody and that he would get him on his leave at Christmas and during our son's time off after school in the summer. Now i got a call last night from him and he asked me if he could take our son for a full year starting next summer and have him go to school in Newfoundland and stay there... Now I had a little melt down and told him absolutely not because the thought of being away from my son for an entire year makes me completely sick to my stomach. I know its important for a child to see their father as well as the mother but a whole year away from his mom? He is my whole world.. am I in the wrong here? I just need advice on how to handle this.

First, you got full custody and visitation set up in court. Second, it would have to go to court and the judge would have to agree to the change with you as well as to if it would benefit the child. Third, it is also a foreign country too and you would have to agree to that as well.
