When my son was 6 yrs old I caught him bringing bugs into the house and dropping them on the floor for me and his older sister to unknowingly step on them. After advice from here I decided it was harmless and let him continue with the idea he would out grow it. After a period of time he stopped doing this. Now he is 12 yrs old and has the same size foot as my daughter and I. The other day I noticed in my closet a pair of high heel sandals out of place and when I picked them up I just glanced at the bottoms and noticed a hugh squashed water bug smashed on the sole. Now I don't have any problem stepping on bugs but I would never step on one of them because they are so large and if I had stepped on it by accident I would have felt him under my shoe and would have wiped my shoe on the sidewalk. Curious I looked at some of others and noticed other remains of bugs on the soles. I then went into my daughters bedroom and checked her high heels and found the same thing. Apparently he is putting on his sisters and my shoes and going out on the patio and stepping on bugs while wearing our shoes. Because of my hatred of bugs I really don't have a problem with him stepping on bugs while wearing our shoes even though I do have some concern with wearing our heels. My question to other moms is if this were your son would you have any problem with him doing this? I've also seen him licking the soles of our shoes and worry about him getting sick. Doesn't bother me if he does this but I am concerned about his health. I confronted him on this and he responded he likes the taste of the worn leather mixed with the dirt on the sole. He says it excites him to wonder what we may have stepped on while wearing the shoes. I work downtown and my daughter is in college and I worry about what filth he may be licking off the sole. I have tried to talk to him about this and he says he doesn't care. I have explained we don't pay any attention to what we step on and told him we probable had stepped on spit, bugs, etc. I know for a fact he licked the sole of one of my shoes I had stepped on a cockroach with and the bug had been pretty big. When I looked at the bottom of my shoe after stepping on him I had crushed shell, white guts, broken of legs, etc. Even though I had scraped my shoe I still had bug remains that had soaked into the sole. Now do understand my concern. Please help me with some advice on how to approach this

First of all we need to ask whether his behaviour is sexualy associated to you or purely to shoes... if it is the later it is harmless.... next thing I would recommend if you want to keep him licking your shoes is to pay attention where you step and make sure that it is only dry dirt... it will not be a big risk to Lick dirt
Regarding him wearing heels.... you need to make sure whether he has a sexual identity issue or is it for bug crushing fetish.... if it is the latter, you may help him to direct his crush fetish to something cleaner like food

From medical point of view.... I am not worried for him about having a fetish rather than licking bug guts.... try food crush with him with clean shoes

I have seen this before. He has what's called a crush fetish. I would imaging if you could see his YouTube account or internet browsing history you would be shocked. It stems from a foot fetish. He is probably doing it to you and his sister because he doesn't have access to other people's shoes. My brother used to do that. He never grew out of it. He is 30 now. Be on the lookout at a friends house.
