mouthy neighbor kids

We have neighbors that have 3 mouthy kids. They live across the street from us. They are at our daughters bus stop! I hate being around them! The mother doesn't see anything wrong with their behavior!! We've even had the middle child of theirs to the principals office because of bad behavior on the school bus. Now the mother says our daughter better not do one little thing wrong or she will turn her in to the principals office!! Any good advice?

Do you stay at the bus stop while your daughter waits for the bus? (How old is she?) If you could hang around and just keep your distance, hopefully it would lessen the chances of the kids acting up. If there is bad behavior on the bus, let the bus driver intervene, so that you have some support---so that its not all coming from you, but it would show that the driver, principal, etc. also support expectations of good behavior from all the kids. Does the driver use assigned seats? If so, see if you can have your daughter sit far away from them to minimize issues.

That mom sounds a little defensive. Hard to know if she really doesn't see anything wrong with the behavior, or if she also feels they are hard to control and feels the criticism is a personal attack. Don't engage in arguments with her. Model respect and self-control when you are around them. Try to ignore the smaller things, and address the concerns that are a safety or respect issue. Talk with your daughter about how to manage herself around kids who act that way. Good Luck!
