My 12 yr. old son doesn't want to go to school, why?

[deleted account] ( 3 moms have responded )

my 12 yr. old son has missed 2 1/2 weeks of school so far this yr. granted he has been to Dr. On several of these occasions and has been excused from school. This week he went half day on Monday, went on field trip Tuesday, and missed Wednesday and Thursday. He says his stomach hurts but by the end of day is fine. His grades are great, he is able to do all his makeup work. He says that nothing is wrong, what could make him not to go to school?

We don't know what is going on at school but it seems something is.
Is he being bullied? He could feel embarrassed if he is and that's why he's not telling you. Maybe set up a meeting with his teacher and school principle and see if they know anything that's going on.
You also need to sit down with him and have a good talk. Listen to what he "doesn't" say. Look at his body language and see if he's hiding something. Let him know that you are there for him and that if he is having any problems he needs to tell you so you can help. Make sure you set aside a decent amount of time for this talk, don't be rushed or he won't open up.

wow it might be anxiety. My son is almost 7 and some mornings says his stomach hurts but that only lasts for 2 minutes I tell him to go to the nurse and call home he never does. He is nervous but he loves his teacher. He loves school Just is emotional
