My 2 1/2 year old has a horrible cough. His doctor gave him a 10 antibiotic treatment for what they are calling Rhinositis (something like that)... anyways...he is coughing again and its only been 3 days since he was on the medicine. He coughs mostly at night or when he takes a nap at daycare. I don't know what to do for him and its so heartbreaking to hear him cough at such a young age and deal with that...its hard enough for an adult, much less a child. Moms...do you have any recommendations for me? Please help!

That's how my daughter started with asthma or it could be adenoids too ask your doctor to check, with my daughter they said it was "a viral infection" time and time again but the antibiotics wasn't working, I was very reluctant to believe it was asthma because it was just a cough (till tonight when she had a full on attack) my daughter also has allergies we never knew about to dust mite, cats and hand soap all of which set the coughing off. Just something to maybe think about.

Also, Judy, if you've finished the first round of antibiotics, but he's still got the symptoms, have him rechecked. It may be that the bug was more tenacious than they thought, or it may be a new bug, but they should be able to just double check.
If he hasn't finished the antibiotics yet, then try the humidifier and elevating the bed while continuing to administer the meds.

Holly hit it. Humidifier or mister (especially at night in the bedroom), and less milk are biggies.
You also may see if having him elevated slightly (put a block or pillow underneath the top of his mattress so that it's slightly angled) at night helps.

humidifier, warm fluids, less milk, honey, and children's mucinex (but this means even more fluid as it can dehydrate you)
