My 2 1/2 year old had been doing great with potty training and we decided to go "out" one day. And she had to go potty. So I took her into the restroom at Sears. And she was going potty like a "big girl" and she was doing great!! Well, it was a toilet that was an automatic toilet, and she leaned forward while she was going and it started flushing while she was going and BOOM!! She was off that toilet faster than you can say boo!! And screaming!! And ever since then, She refuses to go on public toilet, even if it looks like ours at home. Anyone have any suggestions to remedy this situation?? I don't want her to be afraid!! It has actually put a damper on the whole potty training thing completely!!

I had the same problem with my first child. She was terrified until I told her the potty was magic. After watching me go, and making it flush while I was sitting on it, she realized it wasn't going to "eat her." I have 4 other kids now. My three oldest are potty trained and they always get excited about going on the "Magic Potty" in stores. As far as getting her to use the toilet try to avoid the automatic flushers until she is ready, and if that's not possible (so many are automatic now) try covering the sensor with a post it or your hand while she is going. She won't be afraid forever. Good Luck!!!

lol. the poor child. Makes me think of the girl who's afraid of her own shadow. Why not try and go to a public restroom (small one) which is not so busy. you then go first but leave the door open, basically to show the loo doesn't bite. usually the more they go in, the quicker they get over their fears. Shame, hope you come right with this one. :)
