My son is usually pretty good but sometimes if he doesn't get what he wants, or if I'm busy doing something, he will start crying with this loud wailing and just go on and on. It's not all the time but when he does you can just not get him to stop, it's really irritating.
He tends to do it the most when I'm trying to work on school-work things and I understand he wants my attention but he did it today and I'd just spent forever doing things with him. I can't be a constant companion and I try to start him playing something and then leave which sometimes works but not always.
He's also done this crying/wailing thing when I visit my friend when he's playing with her daughters. It's very frustrating because he just won't stop and half the time it's over nothing.
How do I stop him from doing this?

Send him to bed to cry until he's done. It won't stop it from occurring, but will give you both the space you need when it happens. 3 year old kids typically have a lot of overpowering emotions and life is tough for a little one. He's not crying over 'nothing' even though to you (or I) it seems like nothing. 'Nothing' to a grown up is a very big deal when you are 3.
