Hi ladies I'm just looking for some info from parents who are going through the same thing. I'm a mother of five beautiful children my girls are 8&7 and my boys are 5,4&2. Well my 4 year old just got diagnosed with autism learning delay behaviour issues and adhd. Is this normal to have more then one diagnoses along with autism and any advice on what to look into it any tips on helping him start sleeping back in his bed I swear I've tried everything. Is their any good programs out there and anything I should or shouldn't do.

Thank you much love Jessie. H

If the diagnosis is very recent, then has he been set up with and IEP at school. It is not uncommon to have more that one diagnosis but at 4 I think your child is "over labeled". To get him back in bed, you do what you do for other kids. Follow a strict bedtime routine of quiet play, bath, books, teeth and bed. You can try Melatonin, which is a naturally occurring hormone that we make as we prepare for bed, and by giving him a small dose he may make the shift from wake to sleep more readily. Although it is very safe and not habit forming, I'd check with the doctor before starting it. Once you have completely your routine, you put him in bed, and leave. If he gets up you calmly take him back to bed and lay him down. You may need to repeat this 50-100 times the first few nights, you will feel like you are never going to get him to sleep. He will eventually tire and fall asleep. If you cave in on the 98th trip back to bed, you have just taught him to stick with the getting up until you let him sleep in your bed. Do not talk to him, beg him, bargain with him or threaten him, just take him back to bed. Hang in there.
