My 5 month old daughter seems to have a short attention span

I have tried to play with my 5 month old daughter but put some toys infront of her to see if she will grasp them. She will look at the object that I am holding in front of her, but only for a few seconds, and then she will focus on something different. Is this normal?

Yep. 5 month olds have the attention span of a gnat. Give her time. Most babies do like shiny things, though. I referred to my daughter as a monkey or a ferret for the longest time because she loved shiny stuff. Also, your baby can't really see all that well yet. Her eyes are still developing. It may not be that she's bored just that she can't really "see" what's in front of her like adults do.

This is typical of a 5 MONTH old! She is not attending college when she is 1. Enjoy the time you have with her. I know lots of adults that can't focus for more than 5 minutes! Plus, there is a lot to look at as everything is new to her!

Totally normal. She'll get more interested in toys. Make sure you're catching her when she's not hungry or tired. She might go for toys if she's lying on her tummy in the floor. Babies tend to be more alert then.

As a child care professional, i would advise you to give your daughetr some more time...all kids are differnent and reach developmental milestones at different ages. it is at this age kids are busy exploring things around them and are not al all attentive to anything for very long. for your satisfaction you can see this article:

i hope this helps.

she is only 5 months old...give her time.  My daughter is 3 1/2 and her attention span isn't too long either.  Your daughter can see and explore with her eyes...and there is alot to take in.  It in totally normal.
