My 5 month old wakes every hour or two to nurse

Am trying a sleep training (based on where I try to put my son down awake and wake him up to nurse a bit earlier than he does himself - so do I need to set my alarm for every single hour?? Tried last night, it was so tiring, I could only keep it going until 4 then I gave up and let him sleep with me. Any advice?

Here is my rule for night time sleeping. Once you have passed that newborn stage then I am nursing you at bedtime, but not nursing you to sleep. We do a night time routine of nursing, rocking, maybe even reading a book and then laying down sleepy, but not fully asleep. Then they are left to sleep until they wake up (whatever time that is) at that time if you are hungry you are nursed.....if you just needed your pacifier then that is what is given. And then it is back to bed.....unless it is morning time and time to get up for the day. My two rules that I live by.......Don't resort to nursing right away if baby might not be hungry. And DON'T bring baby in bed with you. Get up to nurse or if baby is fussy sit in the rocking chair or couch. Bringing baby in bed just starts a snowball effect sometimes and then you are at 2 yrs, 3 yrs, even 5 yrs trying to get baby back in his/her bed.
