My 9 mo old has a stomach bug -- should I nurse her?

My poor baby has had a bug since Saturday -- started with vomiting and has followed with diarrhea. I was nursing her still, but today my pediatrician told me to hold off on giving her ANYTHING until her tummy has time to adjust. So all day I've just been coaxing her to drink pedialite. She's been miserable! She's so used to nursing, at least several times a day. I finally nursed her a little before bed tonight . . . crossing my fingers that she'll be ok. She was SO HAPPY after she was done nursing.

Does anyone have experience with this -- a baby this young with a bug? If she wakes up tonight, should I nurse her again? Any help or input is appreciated!

THanks for all your responses! I did nurse her once when she woke up last night, as well as this morning. I also found that between feedings, giving her pedialite in a bottle helped to comfort her a bit. She's still not able to eat other foods -- the BRAT diet went right through her even in the smallest amount, but breastmilk and pedialite it is for today.

My doctor said absolutely. He said to assume that about a 3rd of what you're putting in stays in if she doesn't puke for about 10 mins. And remember your great antibodies you're making. My baby hated pedialyte... and I eventually added some into some juice to get that in too. Of course when she was still puking 24hrs onwards we had to go to emerg (Friday night of course) and got something to settle her stomach (what a relief!) Good luck!

I would say yes, and also if I were you; I'd increase the fruits and veggies in YOUR diet so that she gets extra vitamins.

Yes!!! Unless she doesn't want to, I would offer it to her. Your milk has nutrients and anti bodies, so that will help her fight the bug faster :) Hope she gets better soon :)

when i was young i liked to be nursed when i was ill so if my son is ill il nurse him. infact he is teething again at the moment and all he wants to do is cuddle and thats what i do! if she wakes up see if she will settle back down if not then dont be afraid to nurse her just be ready for her to knock herself out of her bed routine good luck!
