My 9 yo was sent home a note about having Acanthosis Nigricans

She was overweight, but we have been working hard on it, and her BMI has come down dramatically in the past year. But they still had to do blood work to rule out diabetes. Well the results came back, and no diabetes, but her liver enzymes are elevated. The doctor has ordered a hepatitis panel as well as a liver ultrasound. I am very nervous as my uncle passed away 5yrs ago from hepatitis. Also I know nothing about the medical history on her father's side.

I don't believe there is such a thing as Acanthosis with Nigricans. Acanthosis Nigricans is the term that descibes the condition. I have never heard the two words separated and used independently to describe a skin problem. Just curious, though, what you think having Acanthosis without Nigricans means and looks like?

I have Ancanthosis without the dermatologist tells me it is an autoimmune and benign, just a thickening of the skin cells. With the Nigricanis the thickened skin is blackened and velvet like. Only the Nigricanis can lead to advanced problems. Follow your doctors advice, bring down her weight and see what the test results for the hepatitis are. I understand the Nigracanis can just clear up with the weight loss.

So sorry you are going through this. I hope everything turns out okay. My mom had something similar and it turned out to be nothing.
