Actually, no child needs solids before 6 months. You only THINK they do. The trouble is, you DON'T know if your child's tummy is sufficiently mature to handle digesting what you are feeding them. So saying things like "only you know your child" is merely a justification, and not actually sound advice. You certainly shouldn't be reducing their formula or breastmilk in order to introduce them into the diet.

My question is WHY do you feel the need to feed your child solids at this point? Personally, I would wait.

I was giving my daughter solids at 2 months, only you know your child. Ruby was eating over 90 ounces of formula so I added solids to her diet, she was still drinking the same amount of formula until I added more solids (1 cup/ day) then it started to go down to 80 ounces/day.
