Can I ask how it is you don't know what grade your kids should be in??

Where I live, a child has to turn 5 before December 1st in order to start Kindergarten. So if your daughter has a birthday IN December, then she should be in 1st grade right now. It's different for every state though. Here's a website I found that shows the age cut-offs for each state (when a child has to turn 5 by in order to start Kindergarten).

January is the cut off date for kids. If your child is 4 January 1st then they must wait until the next year to start kindergarten.

My girls were in 2nd grade at that exact age (also December born), but I think there are only one or two kids in their grade each year that are younger than they are.... so most kids your daughter's age would be in first grade right now.

Joy, I was the youngest too even a bit younger than you. I finished my first semester of college before I turned 18 in December.

In Ontario your child should be in grade 2. Im confused why you dont know what grade your child should be in? According to Ontario, she should of been in school at the most 4 years already, at the least 2 years (legally 2 years, jr and Kindergraden isnt manitory here, but grade 1 and 2 are). If your child isnt in school yet, you need to get them into it.

I was always the youngest in the class and I hated it. When I graduated I was 17 and most of the rest of the class was 18 already. PLUS, my birthday is in July so while everyone else got "Happy Birthday" sung to them during the school year, I remained the youngest and never got any cupcakes just for me lol Booo hoooooo! I had to go to summer school in between 5th and 6th grade and I remember being really excited because I'd get the whole Happy Birthday thing....but instead, they just had one great big happy birthday thing for all the kids who had summer birthdays. Jipped again! LOL

Where do you live???? I live in NSW Australia and here You have to be 5 befor the end of July to start school, my son will be 7 on 10th December and he will start Year 2 in February!

It really depends on the state. In WI the cutoff is Sept. 1. So my October 2004 baby is in Kindergarden this year and your child would be in first. Check with the school your child will be attending. If he/she has attended school somewhere else, many places will test for the skills your child has and recommend placement based on skill instead of age.

She would be in either 1st or 2nd grade depending on her birthday. Each state/school district has different cutoffs for different grades to determine when they start school.

I'm in Alberta, Canada, and when I was in school, as long as you turned 6 before the end of January, you could start grade 1 in September. so she would be in grade 2 then... but some people have already posted links to more info on that. if you're not sure, you could contact your school board?

In Australia, a child would be just finishing first grade and starting second grade in February in most states.

First grade? Here in Texas, a child has to be 5 by Sept 1st to start Kindergartern.

This page has a 2010 copyright so it's probably more accurate and has more details per each state. Like, I just learned that even though the cutoff for my state (NY) is December 1st for Kindergarten, the state of NY doesn't require kindergarten in order to start 1st grade.....hmmmm, interesting. Anywho, here's the page:

At my daughter's school, a child has to turn 5 before January 1st in order to start kindergarten. So here she could be in grade 2. My daughter was born Dec. 2004, but she wasn't ready for kindergarten last year, so I waited a year to enroll her.
