My Daughter & her step mother

How do I deal with the fact that my 18 yr old daughter who lives with her father and step mother is being mistreated all the time? Step mom tells her she can't have any food, tells her she has to leave all the time and her father is doing NOTHING about it. I think he is scared of her because she has already beat him up twice in front of both of my children. Can my daughter do anything legally? We live in Meigs County, Ohio HELP ME PLEASE!

Your daughter is 18. Yes, she legally can do something - leave home. She is legally an adult, so it's her call. Why can't she live with you?

Well, not really. Its a pretty gray area, because she's 18, and most authorities see that as a time when she should be getting out on her own anyway.

She's an adult. She can choose where she wants to live, and can dictate to her father the terms of a relationship, which I would say should be him making time for her in another setting without his wife. My dad has no problem doing that with us...after his trophy wife tried to kick us out of the house that I was under contract to HIM (not her, they weren't even married at the time) to purchase. I told him that it was either her or his biological kids, and if he valued us, he'd make the effort to see us without her.

Of course, that is a domestic violence. there can be a straining order put in place. That is very hostile and controlling. I've been through domestic violence situation with my ex and i went through 3 times with him. Check with a lawyer as well. Good luck!
