My daughter in law is a terrible mother! Am I being old or has mothering changed?

I really think I am a good mom and a good grandma. My son really has little interest in his son who is 3, and I babysit him all the time except on some weekends. When he is with me he is a well mannered well behaved 3 year old, I don't spank him, I do time outs but not often. When he comes back from a weekend home he bites, hits, flicks people in the nose an tells them to shut up and swears like an army Sargent. I talk to them about all this and my DIL says that's how they play by biting each other, she flicks him in the nose to shut him up when she's on the phone and "he knows he's not to say bad words" are the responses I get when asking about it. I am thankful he is with me most days. Any ideas?

Well, unless the child is in an abusive situation, each parenting plan is different, and you can't dictate how she parents.

What does your son say regarding the behaviour? Does he consider it a problem at home?

You can't really tell them how to parent, all you can do is what you are doing and teach him the right things when he is with you.
It sounds like both of them don't really want to be parents though. The fact that you have him more than his parents is a bit sad for the little boy.
