My daughter is 2 1/2 and recently started having tantrums. I can not just ignore them. She gets distructuve and throws things, kicks, screams, and ends up getting hurt if we leave her in her room. I am at my witts end and don't know how to deal with them.

Time out and be firm. This behaviour is unacceptable! My daughter used to do the same thing. Put her in time out, somewhere that she cant see tv or reach anything, and leave her there until she calms down. Just try to ignore the screaming. If she gets up, just put her back and say "Time Out" and walk away. It may take awhile but she will eventually learn. Our 18 month old has just started time out for being destructive as well.
