Maybe it hurts her to do it is why she's holding it in....my oldest son (he's almost 11 now) always had problems doing a poo and sometimes still does...when he was a baby/toddler he would hold his poo in cuz it hurt him to do it (he was constipated) so we ended up taking him to a G.I. doctor and they gave us meds for him and told us to sit him on the potty after every meal (to get him used to it)....does she cry when she finally does it? if so this could be a sign that she's constipated....(give her children's laxative) if she's just holding it in....eventually she'll grow out of it hope this helps

Drop the struggle. The more you pressure her however tactfully you may or may not be, it will only add to the power struggle. As a mother of two children 7 yrs old and 3 1/2 year old, I've come to realize that this is a private and emotional matter for children. Usually when they don't feel any pressure, they end up surprising you. The fact that she is holding it, tells me that emotionally she is not ready. I say let it go for now. Almost 3 is too early to worry about it. As a mom, I know how we all look forward to this stage. I also know how impatient we can feel. Children pick up on our body language and it only adds to the pressure: She adores you and wants to please you but you are asking her to do something strange and she is not comfortable doing it yet.
This is a lot of expectation and stress for something that should come naturally and privately.

My son was pee trained at 2 1/2 but from 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 he always asked me to put a diaper on him when he needed to poo. Augh! Believe me, I tried to get him to go to the toilet because I knew he could do it but he wouldn't. I had to let my expectation go. It was very difficult but I did it because I didn't want to turn this issue into a power struggle. I am glad I did that because today, I have two happy children who go when they have to. I was ready from many accidents but non ensued probably because I was ready for them to make mistakes and learn from them.

BTW I would also dump the poo from the diapers into the toilet. Tell it a cheerful good-bye and to enjoy the fun ride to the sewage system and remind my child that he/she can "make" more another time.

Hang in there. She will be toilet trained before you know it! Hope this helps.
