My kid won't eat!

My son is 21 months old and won't eat anything! My husband likes to please so if he won't touch what we're eating for dinner he'll find SOMETHING for him to eat. This bothers me because I don't want to have to make a meal for everyone individually. I also don't really want him living off of crackers, cookies or fruit snacks. I would like him to get used to the idea that what is prepared for dinner is what's we eat for dinner. But I'm not even sure if he's old enough to start that protocol. I'm not even sure if he knows what "hungry" or "full" even means. But I know when he's hungry because if he refuses to eat dinner he wakes up all night and then gets up at the crack asking for food, which he doesn't eat either. I have no clue. I'm at a total loss.

It is very common for toddlers that age to be picky eaters and also to test boundaries. There is a wonderful book called the No cry picky eaters solution that I highly recommend reading! My son used to be a picky eater as well and we just kept offering him a variety of different healthy foods. As long as he is gaining weight in a healthy manner, you shouldnt worry. Good luck!

A 21 month old will eat long before he starves. You may have a few tantrums and a cranky fella for a while but he will learn. Right now he is learning to work dad into giving him snack food! He can eat what you prepare and make one side dish you know he likes so he doesn't go hungry, but give him a tiny portion of the other food first! Remember he will eat about 2 tablespoons of food at any given meal, so while it seems he is not eating at all, he is likely eating enough. as long as he is active and achieving milestones, don't sweat it.
