You could try changing the bedtime routine to include something he really looks forward too (reading special books that only come out at bedtime, doing a puzzle together in his room, blowing some bubbles in the bathroom after he brushes his teeth, etc). Sometimes starting bedtime earlier helps too. I know that for us, the more tired our kids are the worse bedtime seems to go. I'm not sure what kind of behaviour you're getting in terms of "hating" bedtime, but something else that can help with toddlers is to avoid telling them what to do. Ask him to show you the right things to do for the bedtime routine. Make it an exercise in him showing you how clever he is rather than you trying to force him to do something he doesn't want to do. Also, if he's still in a crib you could try switching to a regular / toddler bed... sometimes that makes things better, but sometimes the transition makes it worse.
