We recently had to go through this with my daughter. Where do you live? I know here, we sent her to a hearing doctor and then from there they sent her to a speech therapist who evaluated her along with a psychiatrist. That was when they diagnosed her with Pervasive Developmental Disorder, which is on the autism spectrum. How old is your son? The doctors and speech therapist told me that they usually don't like to diagnose children until they are 3 years old to give them enough time to develop skills on their own.

It depends on where you live, for starters. most states have an early intervention service (or services) that can help him and you and do not require a diagnoses to move forward. if your son has an autism spectrum disorder he will probably require a speech therapist, developmental specialist, & an occupational therapist at a minimum. If you let me know where you live I could probably help more
