Sounds like you tell the officers that he's threatened suicide, let them put him on a suicide watch, and the only way you bail him out is if he agrees to sign a contract that he'll be in rehab within a certain period of time.
If he won't agree to rehab, he can wait until his attorney pleads him out, and face whatever consequences.

Yes Jodi he has used this in the the past. I am also a social worker so I do take suicide threats seriously when there is a plan. I like your comment though! Strong and what I need to hear.

Has he always been successful at manipulating you this way? You do realise this is outright emotional blackmail. Does he use it often? I only say this because it sounds like your son needs a stint in jail, and by bailing him out, you wouldn't be doing him any favours either.
