Wait until he's ready, if not it'll be way more of a struggle for everyone. Talk to him about the potty, let him see you use the potty, but don't push it until he's interested and engaged. Two and a half is pretty young, still.

Mine was the same, and when asked said "no, that's what my diaper is for". Which pretty much told me he was ready, just didn't want to stop playing to go potty.

Thank god for my wonderful caregiver at the time! We put him completely in underwear, and plastic pants. When he wet/soiled his pants, he had to help rinse them out. Plastic sheet on the bed at night as well, although mine was already staying dry at night.

Within a week, he was potty trained. I'd ask your son why he isn't interested...he may surprise you! I know I was bowled over when I did...LOL...

Try cloth training pants, that way he can feel when he wets himself. Don't punish for accidents, they will happen. Put him on the potty often and to keep him there try books, toys, stickers.

Don't push, but keep offering and when he's ready, he'll show interest. My son is just now fully trained and he's 4. Here's a general guideline to help you know when your son is ready. And trust me, them being ready is probably THE most important thing because if they aren't ready, then you're not only wasting your time but you're probably gonna end up making it harder to tackle when they ARE ready.

Tara, don't worry about your son. Some children are ready that early and some are not. Talk to him about it, offer rewards if he uses the potty but do NOT punish him for not using the potty at 2-1/2. If you can stay at home with him put him in underwear not pull-ups (pull on diapers) so he will feel it if he wets them. If he is just not ready try again in a couple of weeks. One of my children was completly trained way before he was two but the other two were just weeks from being three before they were ready. Don't let anyone stress you out over him not being trained yet. If he were almost 4-1/2 it would be an issue but not 2-1/2.
